Paris in August: Upsides and Downsides

  •  The city is less crowded
This is not entirely true. If it’s true that locals may go away for their holidays, Paris is full of tourists! That is because August is a month for lots of people travels all around the world. On the other side, if you would like to visit Paris and see it in its everyday life, I don’t suggest coming in August. I think that the best time of August is its last days when people come back from holidays anyway.

  • Accommodation may be cheaper
If you go to Paris in August you may find some accommodation at a lower price. This value if you book in the days at the end of the month when many people have to come back to the city. This is great advice if you have the chance to choose when you can go on holiday.

  • The Weather and its lights
Paris in August is very hot too! The attractions in Paris, hotels, and accommodations all have AC. But, some activities are compromised anyway. If you want to go to Giverny to admire Monet’s gardens, it may be not so colorful as in other times of the year. The same is for Disneyland and other amusement parks: you may suffer weather but the same is for the coldest months of the year.

  • Less traffic
Since many Parisians are on holiday, you can admire the city without the chaos of the everyday life of a huge city. You can ensure yourself the chance to admire the urban landscape of Paris without too many transports in your view by coming to Paris in August!

  • Quiet Paris
August is the only time of the year when you can appreciate Paris as a place to relax. Even a walk along Canal St Martin may become a relaxing walk at Sunset instead of the occasion to discover a brand new cafè. You can even jog in the park without encountering too many people! It’s a real advantage to experience the city.

  • Places close for holidays
It’s true, if you decide to come to Paris in August, you may find some of the best shops and restaurants closed. It’s one of the actual downsides of visiting Paris this month! Anyway, you can always come back during another time of the year to see what you have missed!

  • Crowded attractions
Many people report this “con” of coming to Paris in August. I think that even if it’s true that the major attractions in Paris are crowded, is also true that that is always so! The best solution is to buy a skip-the-line ticket to be sure of not wasting time doing queues.
