How to wish Merry Xmas in French

Whether you’re writing the entire card in French or using a few words to make it interesting, here are some basics for sending your Christmas and New Year wishes in French:

  • Use Cher (for men) and Chère (for women) instead of “dear”;
  • “Joyeux Noel” stands for Merry Xmas!
  •  Bonne année means Happy New Year;
  •  The most complete wish still is “Bonnes fêtes de fin d’année“. It literally means happy holidays and happy New Year’s Eve.

Don’t forget to send kisses writing “Grosses bises” (i.e. Kisses)

If you are looking for something to write on the gift, write “Pour X de la part de Y” (To X, from Y).
